Hi, I’m Chelsea Virginia.

My name is Chelsea, and I’m a Scandinavian-Ukrainian illustrator, muralist, and writer hailing from the shores of Lake Superior in Thunder Bay, and currently living on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto. I am a proud Northerner, and my identity as an artist has very much been shaped by growing up in #tbay. By day I am a professional communicator for a non-profit arts organization, and by night I magically transform into my true artist self: an illustration artist, creative writer, and hobbyist photographer.
You’ll quickly notice that my illustration style is colourful, folksy, and whimsical. I love to doodle anything that brings me happiness, like special landmarks and local animals. I call it fun art, not fine art. My photography work often focuses on landscapes and mother nature, while my literary work is a bit more dark and reflective, often exploring themes around mental health, grief, and identity.
I am passionate about nature preservation, feminism, and mental wellbeing, thus I love creating art that is both joyful and political. From illustrations to photographs to poems, my artwork reflects my values and ideals for a future world where people are in greater harmony with the environment and each other.
To follow my artistic journey, feel free to follow along on Instagram or Facebook. If you’re interested in purchasing a print of my illustrations or photography, you can visit my Etsy Shop, or contact me directly for a specific print (I do occasionally take commissions). When I’m not posting something online I can likely be found backcountry camping with my dog, reading a new book, hiking a new trail, or drinking copious amounts of tea (or wine).
